What is paintless dent removal?

Paintless Dent Removal is a method of removing minor cosmetic dents from vehicle bodywork without the need for filling and spraying and is suitable for both steel and aluminium body panels.

Illustration of areas of a car on which PDR can be performed.

The Paintless Dent Removal or PDR technique can be used to remove dents from approximately 90% of the surface of each individual body panel. In order to perform PDR it is necessary to access the rear of the body panel, therefore there are some areas where the technique cannot be employed. Typically PDR is not suitable for removing dents that occur within 1 or 2 cm of the edge of the panel as shown by the red areas on the illustration. Similarly PDR cannot be used for creases that cross shut lines, for example a crease that runs from the wing to the door panel.

Advantages

Paintless Dent Removal is far cheaper than traditional filling and spraying repair techniques. In addition negating the need for spraying means that no colour matching is necessary, therefore the finished repair is completely invisible.

Removing even minor dents from your vehicles bodywork can significantly increase its value.

There is no need to be without your vehicle while it's at the body shop, Paintless Dent Removal can be carried out while you wait, either at your home or work place.

Limitations

Paintless Dent Removal is only capable of removing minor cosmetic dents from the vehicles body panels. It cannot be used to repair structural damage or bodywork that has been severely deformed or creased as a result of a large impact.

For more information about PDR take a look at the What can be achieved with PDR? page, or get in touch by any of the means detailed on the Contact Us page, a technician will be able to ascertain the suitability of Paintless Dent Removal for the repair.
